Fight Clubs

Fight Club Workshop

This Saturday (Feb 25th), we will host a fight club workshop from 9-11AM.  Let me walk you through what fight clubs are and why we are having this event.

1.  What is a fight club?  A fight club is a small group of people (2-4 people) that meet regularly to help each other fight the fight of faith.  We try to help each other walk with God during the week and understand and fight sin that often entangles us.   I would say that my fight club is one of the most fruitful hours of my week.  I’d put it even with my gospel community and Sunday worship.

2.  Why the event on Saturday?  I’ll just list some questions about how fight clubs should happen and I think this will answer it.

  • How do you start one?  Who do you ask?  Are there sign-ups?
  • What do you talk about when you meet?  How do you keep it from being group therapy?  How do you keep it from being graceless accountability meetings? How often should you meet?  Weekly? Monthly?
  • How do you keep it from getting really old?
  • Do you do agree to read the Bible separately and hold each other to it?
  • What do you do if someone else asks to join your group and it would make it too big?
  • How does a fight club work along with gospel communities?  What does it provide that a GC might not?  Should our fight club partners be in the same GC?
  • What kinds of things should be confidential?
  • Is it good or bad to have several spouses meeting with in parallel fight clubs?  Is there some conflict of interest and possibility for gossip about each other’s spouse?
  • What do you do when someone shares something that needs attention and some extra help from the church?
  • If you have really honest “fight club” type conversations with your spouse, do you still need a fight club outside of that?

OK, you get the idea.  That’s what we’ll be discussing.  It will be interactive and I hope it will be a high yield 2 hours for all that choose to attend.

Thanks Dusty. Sounds like a great forum to share info about fight clubs. Those of us who are new to Redeemer should benefit from the meeting.
Just one comment though, I thought that "the first rule of Fight Club is you do not talk about Fight Club."

If we need childcare for this event, do we need to let you know?
